Aims

Targeted at care leavers (18-24 years) in Chatham, this specific, tailor-made, intensive 1-2-1 employability support provision equips customers with the skills to enable them to move into work and supporting them to continue into employment.

Content of the Provision:
Employability:
• Career plan-Jobs I would or could do by following the any job (A), better job (B) and then career (C)
• Importance of CV and how to complete an application form.
• Support to create a CV.
• Understanding disclosure of mental health.
• Interview skills & preparation
• Things to consider when applying for a job/looking at a job advert.
• Transport can I get there the times I need to work.
• Problem solving and decision making.
• Social media–it’s importance and how it can affect you. Having a positive social media platform

Functional Skills:
• Maths/English–Support where needed and signposted to more specific help.
• I.T Skills–Basic support to assist jobsearch where needed (including how to use basic Excel, basic Word, upload & download documents and how to apply online.)

Understanding work:
• Employer expectations with presentations–how to flourish and what to expect when entering employment from an employers point of view
• Time keeping
• What does a contract mean (including zero hours)
• Speaking with an employer
• Understanding pay slip/Tax/NI/pay and processes – awareness of sick pay, holiday pay, annual leave etc.
• Adherence to employment regulations
• Appropriate dress/hygiene for work and why
• Work trial advice–with support to get a work trial

On completion participants will be able to:
By the end, clients will be able to job search effectively with increased confidence. They will have increased employability skills knowledge and self-awareness etc with a finalised and personalised action plan for seeking employment with an updated CV.
